Spruce Town Planning are pleased to have assisted their client to secure planning permission to extend the roof of an existing house to accommodate a loft conversion. BCP Council refused planning permission initially on the basis that the design of the proposed development would fail to preserve the character of the street scene. The client approached Spruce Town Planning for advice and assistance with regards to appealing the Council’s decision. Our grounds of appeal demonstrated the varied character of the houses in the vicinity of the application site and that the alterations to the house would not look out of place. In allowing the appeal the Inspector concluded that the proposed changes to the house “would merely create an alternative version of an individually styled building. This would simply add to the area’s existing mix in a manner that would reflect the local development pattern without harm to its character or appearance.”
